5 Tips for Saving Money While Moving
Getting ready to move and stressed out about it?
Don’t be!
Moving is always going to come with a bit of stress, of course. Your whole life is changing! But it doesn’t have to be overwhelming and super expensive.
Tyler Goff Group is here to help you save money and minimize stress with a few helpful tips for moving.
Use an Online Calculator
One of the best ways to save money in all areas of your life is to make a budget and stick to it. There are great online calculators you can use to help you understand ahead of time all of the expenses that may come with moving, and then you can plan ways to cut corners.
Yard Sale!
Not only can you save money, but you can also make money! Host a yard sale or a garage sale and get rid of all the parts of your home that don’t bring you joy, a la Marie Kondo. When you comb through your stuff and start letting go, you can make a little extra money, and give yourself less to pack.
Pack with a Plan and with Help
Create a strategy ahead of time for packing. Pack up what you won’t need several months in advance, pack up the less frequently used items a month or so in advance, and then pack, room by room, the daily items the month before you move.
And get help!
Recruit friends and family members to come over on weekends and get yourself put into boxes.
Don’t Buy Supplies
There are so many free supplies out there. Do not spend money on boxes and bubble wrap when markets and big box stores toss those things every day. Ask at your local Costco or grocery store. Ask your friends and neighbors who may have just moved. You know what they say - a closed mouth never gets fed.
As around and save money, potentially on all the supplies you need to move.
Cancel Utilities
Don’t pay for utilities after you move out. Make sure you call your utility companies well in advance and plan to have your power, water, garbage, cable, and more shut off the day of your move. It will save you a ton.
And remember, if you need help with your move, contact Tyler Goff Group. We have a ton of resources to help.
